MEET CLERK STACY M. BUTTERFIELD, CPA

CAREER

Stacy M. Butterfield, CPA, is the Polk County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller. In this role, she safeguards public funds and records by performing three roles: Clerk of Courts, County Recorder, and County Comptroller.

Clerk Butterfield was elected to the position in 2012 and has proudly served three terms in office. Prior to becoming Clerk, she served as a top administrator in the office. Clerk Butterfield is a certified public accountant. She started her career with a private accounting firm auditing government clients, which is where she discovered her passion for public service.

​

Clerk Butterfield graduated from Florida Southern College with a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in accounting. She served for a number of years as an adjunct professor at her alma mater.

​

With nearly four decades of service to the Clerk's office, Clerk Butterfield has an exceptional understanding of the office and what it takes to best serve the Polk County community.

Clerk Butterfield represents  Polk County on many statewide initiatives. She has served as the President of the statewide Clerk and Comptroller's association and is currently serving as the Legislative chair. She was appointed by Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Canady to serve on the Workgroup on the Continuity of Court Operations and Proceedings During and After COVID-19 as well as the Workgroup on Access to Justice. She was also recently appointed by Chief Justice Muñiz to serve on the Judicial Circuit Assessment Committee. 

CHARACTER

Married 27 years, Clerk Butterfield and her husband, Rick, are blessed with four children, two Boxer fur babies, three daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren, which are the apples of their eyes.

Clerk Butterfield grew up in Polk County and spent her childhood fishing, golfing, and earning new badges for Girl Scout sashes. Her mother and father instilled in her the importance of honesty, integrity, hard work, and sense of duty. She is actively involved in her home community. She serves in leadership roles for Polk Vision and Leadership Lakeland. She actively participates in numerous domestic violence awareness initiatives, Toys for Tots, Heartland for Children’s Rudolph Roundup, and Christmas outreach to local elderly neighbors at The Rohr Home and VISTE. She is also a volunteer for Florida Boxer Rescue.
